Southern Pines Trucking Heavy Haul Division has company driver positions available for both local work in Gary, Indiana, and over-the-road work in the continental U.S., with a concentration on the East Coast and Midwest regions. We have over 300 pieces of specialized equipment available that includes stepdeck, RGN double drops, stretch, steerable, modular, and perimeter frame trailers with a fleet of both three and four axle tractors custom-ordered for our heavy haul operations. Our heavy haul drivers gain considerable experience operating a wide variety of equipment and hauling oversize/overweight commodities such as steel-making machinery, steel products, heavy equipment, prefabricated buildings, aerospace products and occasional legal steel commodities to avoid deadhead miles.

Available Positions:

  • Description

    • Southern Pines Trucking Heavy Haul Division has local driver positions available in the Gary, Indiana, area. These are dedicated drivers who support our customers’ operations and haul steel making machinery and steel products.

    • Company Intermill Drivers generally work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional weekend work upon customer needs. Drivers will be home every night, but over the road opportunities are available at the driver’s request.

  • Requirements 

    • Reside within a 40 mile radius of Gary, Indiana, to support varying start times with a two hour advanced call out notice

    • Available to work various hours and weekends

    • Dependable mode of transportation

    • Possess a valid Class A CDL (Doubles and Triples endorsement is preferred)

    • Must have a minimum of three years of oversize transport experience

    • Must pass a DOT physical (or have a current DOT physical)

    • Must pass both hair and urine drug screens

    • Southern Pines Trucking Heavy Haul Division has over the road company driver positions available. These drivers haul a wide variety of commodities, including oil & gas equipment and skids, steel making equipment, heavy machinery, steel products, premanufactured buildings, power generation equipment, and aerospace equipment. Our over the road company drivers can haul both legal and oversized loads, which makes it a great environment for new and experienced drivers.

    • We operate primarily in the Midwest and East Coast regions through our terminals in Wampum, Pennsylvania, and Gary, Indiana. There are occasional opportunities to drive in the South and West regions as well.

  • Requirements

    • Possess a valid Class A CDL (Doubles and Triples endorsement is preferred)

    • Have one year of flatbed experience (steel products experience preferred)

    • Must pass a DOT physical (or have a current DOT physical)

    • Must pass both hair and urine drug screens

    • Must be able to handle and maneuver tarps over a commodity

    • Stay OTR for approximately 1-2 weeks at a time before returning home for 2-4 days
